The Osteopaths: Teresa Harvey talks us through osteopathy
Teresa Harvey, RGN, BSc Hons (Ost), co-owner of The Osteopaths based in Linwood, Glasgow and Dalry talks us through how her practice could help you
What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a different way of thinking about health and treatment as we look at the whole person. We spend an hour with our patients during the first appointment to understand the patient’s individual lifestyle and medical history. Alongside a complete physical examination we seek to try and gain a clear understanding into what is the primary cause of their pain. We then treat the root of the problem using hands-on techniques like manipulation of the joints and spine, as well as massage of the muscles. Our clinic also uses acupuncture and cutting-edge laser therapy, to make our treatments as effective as possible.
How long have you been an osteopath?
I was initially a nurse specialising in spinal nursing. I studied and graduated from the British School of Osteopathy in 1998 with a First-Class Honours Degree. I’ve worked all over the world since then and this is my 25th year as an osteopath!

What kind of conditions do you treat?
We deal with lots of problems from headaches to ankle injuries. Often people come with a lower back problem and don’t realise it’s because of an ankle injury that occurred many years before. We also see people who just want a check-up or come to us after a sports injury. We have physiotherapists on our team who specialise in rehabilitation, so we offer a complete package of recovery.
What’s the one thing you advise all your clients to do?
Keep Moving! Don’t sit for longer than 30 minutes at a time, particularly when working at a desk. Our bodies are really designed for all kinds of motion.
