Linzi Clark ‘With You’ music review by Robert Blair
By this point, it’s safe to say that our admiration for the musical stylings of Linzi Clark is clear for all to see. Pairing a remarkable vocal range with a lyrical brevity that allows her to make incisions into your heart and soul with ease, her debut album is undoubtedly one of our most anticipated releases from any Scottish act this year.
True to form, the singer/songwriter and production and arrangement wizard Bovine have delivered another transcendent offering in the shape of ‘With You.’
Mapping out a love story over its runtime, Linzi’s ability to transport you to a time and place through her words and mastery of melody places you in the eye of the torrid storms and often all-too-fleeting stillness alike.
Charting self-sabotage, harmony and insecurity, Linzi uses luxuriant and comfortingly familiar instrumentation of bygone eras to tell the tale of a contemporary romance. Complete with all of the intricacies and extentuating circumstances that our modern world has created, it makes for a thrilling narrative which anchors the track.
Held aloft by gorgeous strings and one of Linzi’s most splendorous vocal takes to date, it’s fair to say that Bovine’s production proves that he’s an unsung commodity that specialises in ascending an already wonderful song into something that could seamlessly slip into the canon of treasured ballads.
As clear of a demonstration of her magnetic talent as any artist could ask for, Linzi’s latest has taken our preexisting excitment for the record and elevated it to unforeseen heights.
Linzi Clark’s debut album, entitled All I Have Now, is slated for release on the 5th November. If you fancy seeing her live, then you can do so when she supports Nathan Ball at Glasgow’s Garage Attic with tickets available here
