Fire Horse Chinese Restaurant now open in Paisley

Paul Dickson meets up with the new owners of Fire Horse Chinese Restaurant in Paisley to find out what customers can expect…

Today we met Meimei and Michael, the husband-and-wife team behind the new Chinese restaurant on Neilston Road, Paisley, called Fire Horse. Both have 25 years of experience in hospitality each, even though Meimei doesn’t look a year over 30! Michael is the head chef, and although Meimei is also a chef, she’ll be working front of house.

Having lived in Renfrew for years and now residing in nearby Glasgow, Meimei had been looking to open a restaurant in Paisley for years. She finally found the right space after viewing what used to be La Banca.

You can expect fresh Chinese food, which will include vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free options. Meimei is working on a separate gluten-free menu, which she hopes to publish soon. Takeaway is available. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible.

The restaurant will be open seven days a week and will open for lunch from Monday to Saturday at noon. Full details are below.

Their alcohol licence is currently being processed. Until then, customers are welcome to ‘bring your own bottle’ with no service charge. Soft drinks, tea and coffee are available.

2026 is the Year of the Horse, the seventh animal sign in the 12-year repeating cycle of the Chinese zodiac. This year is specifically represented by the Fire Horse, which occurs once every 60 years. Meimei and Michael were both born in a previous Year of the Horse, hence the connection and the story behind the restaurant’s name.

Meimei designed the lovely interior of Fire Horse. She has brought together elements of sky, earth and nature to create a welcoming space for the local community.
