Visiting Angels: branching out into Renfrewshire
As they undergo an expansion, the Visiting Angels team are here to provide care that’s tailored for you and your loved ones
Care is a difficult business to enter into and there can be a real resistance to place your faith in the hands of strangers to either guide a family member back to health, aid with an ongoing condition or attempt to make their remaining years or months as comfortable as possible.
However, those in Renfrewshire have recently been made aware of an alternative in the form of the local Visiting Angels franchise that’s garnering excellent reviews.
Covering everything from companionship through post-hospital stays, Alzheimer’s and palliative care, the team is headed up by Georg Gottschlich, a former grade four nurse from Bishopton who has made it his mission to give families in need the peace of mind they deserve.
“We look after people from ages 18 to 101,” he reveals. “For us, it’s not a case of trying to sell something to anyone, but to reassure families of what we can supply. I’m not someone who’s coming to this as an outsider either as I looked after my mother-in-law and father-in-law. We’re there for people,” he affirms, “that’s the bottom line.”
Compelled to buy the Visiting Angels franchise to “get out of a professional rut”, Georg insists that it’s not only been a life changing experience for him, but those they care for.

“We just want to keep delivering what we say we do and that we’ll be there when we say we will. I know how difficult it is when strangers come into your home four times a day and that personal experience across our staff means that we do things the right way.”
By no means an unskilled job, VBA’s carers go through rigorous training to ensure that they can provide the best care across the emotional and physical complexities of it all.
“If I can look after them, then it ensures that they do their best,” he said of the company’s ‘carer-centric’ environment.
Based in Inchinnan, Georg says they were intent on being located in Renfrewshire as he “wanted to be in a place where I know the area”. Since then, they’ve begun branching out to a slightly bigger territory in East Renfrewshire and South Glasgow.
Yet while it has taken a little time to prepare, they feel prepared to do so as they know they won’t “lose the personal touch” that has made them so special in the first place.
