The Honeybee and the Bumblebee, a poem by Gordon Powrie

One day a fuzzy Bumblebee
Was a-buzzing in the garden
When he saw a Honeybee
A flower she was guarding,
The Bumble said “Honeybee,
If you’ll just give me a chance
I promise I can take special care
Of your flowers and your plants.”
The Honeybee it glistened
With the caress of morning dew
And said “Bumblebee, of course my dear!
The garden is for you!”
The Bumblebee was all aflame –
Incandescent in his ardour;
And though his sting stung Honeybee
Her only cry was “Harder!”
For a little fact that’s not well known:
Though a sting can be offensive,
When exchanged between bees in love
Their reaction is not pensive,
For bees, you see, that flock together
Do not suffer from its venom
But instead incite the heady heights
Of Petite Mort
And Heaven.
